    Abstract
This paper is a result of an interest developed in James Agee late one night in the summer of 1963, when my good friend and fellow-student D. James Morrice introduced me to Agee by reading some of the powerful and beautiful passages in Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. This interest was greatly stimulated and increased primarily through several long conversations with Agee's life-long friend, the Reverend James Harold Flye. Father Flye was extremely receptive and helpful both in conversation and in his allowing me to see unpublished poems, fragments, and parts of original manuscripts. Needless to say, all misinterpretations or misrepresentations resulting from this contact rest wholly upon myself.
