Nelson Algren and the "Concept of Chicago"

To most accurately discuss influences on Algren's writing, I shall attempt to use the specific interpretations that he adopted. Chief of these is the Marxist application of economic condition and superstructure to capitalism. This is not to discuss the relative merits or defects of that political philosophy, but to analyze Algren's portrait of Chicago in light of his bias.
