Abstract
In is paper will be found not only the
details of the achievements of the former blockade runners,
but also descriptions of the vessels themselves.
Their development, construction, and modification for
service will be discussed, along with their important
strengths and weaknesses and the ways that these affected
the performance of their duties. It is felt that a complete
understanding of the conduct of a war must take
into consideration the capabilities of the weapons with
which it was fought, and the author hopes that this
paper will contribute in some small way to the achievement
of such an understanding of our Civil War.
