Abstract

It is an attempt to pull together recent studies and conclusions that are at odds with the traditional understanding of Indian Buddhist history from the time of the Buddha's death until the 5th century C.E. The goal is to outline some aspects of this period in Buddhist history and to provide a framework for further study.
