Abstract
Steffen, Matthias, and Schneider have authored a book of tables entitled "Tables of Eigenvalues and of Eigenvectors of Hamiltonian Describing the Combined Static Magnetic Dipole and Electric Quadrupole Interaction of a Nuclear Level." The purpose of this work was to use the eigenvectors of these tables and calculate the transition probabilities for the combined interaction. The expression for the probability of a transition is derived. Both the magnetic dipole and the quadrupole Hamiltonians are derived and combined in matrix form. The calculated probabilities for spin, I=3/2, are included for several orientations of a crystal with an axially symmetric field gradient in a static magnetic field. The magnetic field strength is also a parameter.
