The purpose of this paper is to answer two questions Which have puzzled me, as a student and hopeful practitioner of psychology. The first is "Why has the ideological rift between Freudian psychoanalytic theory and neurological and experimental psychology developed". The second is "Can and should this rift be dissolved?" By sorting out those well-meaning but fanatic exponents of Freud and those equally closed-minded neurologists and attempting to correlate theories and experimental results of valid psychologists, I hope I have succeeded in demonstrating the worth of an attempted rapprochement. It is my belief that, in order to progress, psychology must combine the best that every school has to offer. We must continue to follow the tested scientific principles for verification and validity, but we cannot remain so rigid that we are unable to use that which other disciplines have to offer.en_US
