Abstract
The study described in this paper constitutes a sample of Aid to Dependent Children case records in the St. Joseph County Department of Public Welfare, South Bend, Indiana. The information collected was centered around my belief that children living in families dependent on public assistance for their income are deprived in many areas, as well as financial, in comparison to the general population of the community. Problems arising from these handicaps make life more difficult for these children and place them in a disadvantaged position for becoming equipped to face the world as adults. Essentially this is a descriptive study resulting in certain conclusions which may be considered sociological rather than statistical.
