The Performance of Plastic Scintillation Detectors
Abstract
This project is concerned with the performance
of plastic scintillation detectors in the detection of
protons and indication of their energy. Of specific interest
are proton-proton scattering events in which both protons
are detected in coincidence and their energies analyzed.
It is required that the scintillators are large to subtend
a large solid angle at a given distance and that they indicate the
energy of incident protons accurately. The detector
in question consisted of NE. 102 scintillation plastic mounted
on an RCA 8055 photomultiplier tube.
