dc.descriptionLamaist banner or temple hanging; tempera and gilt on gauze sized with chalk and glue; figure of gold Sakyamuni Buddha seated in Dhyana Asana on lotus dais with legs folded and hands clasping an alms bowl containing flowers; centered below are sacrificial offerings of bowls of fruit while trailing foliage pervades background areas throughout, all issuing from a white peony cresting the principal nimbus; flanked on all sides by symmetrical rows of red taras repeatedly represented in the same Mudra but variously crowned by white, green or blue nimbi; in all a total of 110 subordinate Buddhas in groups separated by stylized cloud forms. Retains old, faded, silk brocade banner mountings and inner borders; cropped to fit in frame of dark blue painted cove molding with gilded edges.
