Landscape scroll with figures, ink and colors on paper; on a grassy terrace a group of nine elderly Taoists gathered around a table sheltered by a tall gnarled pine tree, expatiating over a scroll held by a pair of figures at right foreground; in the distance a lake recedes toward ranges of mountain tops half hidden in veils of clouds; coarsely rendered, with signature at upper left margin, four characters followed by two red seal (chop) marks. (See Siren’s Dictionary of Chinese Painters.) Top and bottom with wide, faded gold brocade bands and bordered on four sides by original green and tarnished gold silk brocade with strong patter of densely concentrated small fruited and flowering sprigs.
