Abstract
The author reviews the Western vampire tradition from Stoker's Dracula to the novels of Anne Rice and the TV vampires on Buff the Vampire Slayer. In contrast to the evil "others" of Western vampire lore, the graphic novel vampires of Japanese authors Iida Haruko and Kikuchi Hideyuki come to reflect the Japanese concept of "wa" or harmony and serve as protectors of peace and social harmony.
