Abstract
This Senior Individualized Project is broken into two parts. Part one is a "mini-project"
that focuses on a story that was written for my Advanced Fiction Workshop
called, "Just a Moment for Lemonade." I had considered this piece to be my first
complete and successful story as a fiction writer, so during my first SIP quarter, I decided
to try and get it published. Although I was excited by the possibility of seeing my story
in print, the real goal of this part of my SIP was to begin familiarizing myself with the
business of publishing. Thus, the first story in this collection was not written for the
purposes of this SIP, but has been included for leading me through several different
aspects of publishing: a rigorous editing process to get the piece to publishable quality,
the search for reputable literary magazines where my writing might be suitable, and more
simple things like the design of my first cover letter, and the logistics of submission, i.e.
multiple submission etiquette, mailing etiquette, and so on.
