Abstract
When the opportunity to write
an Islamic history paper presented itself to me, I conducted research on the history of the
veil and its relation to female sexuality, a paper that I turned to as I began thinking of a
SIP topic. Although I lean towards the more creative side of literary expression,
engaging in this critical SIP allowed me to combine my interest in creative writing,
feminism and Islam in a critical framework. The events of September 11, and the
convoluted anti-Muslim rhetoric I have witnessed since, also fueled my desire to actively
engage in a project exposing the intricacies of Islam.
