Abstract

The themes and ideas for this project have been brewing in my mind since fall quarter of my first-year. Then, I was enrolled in Gail Griffin's seminar, and I explored ideas of masculinity and identity in American culture and in my personal experience. The concepts took hold. During the next three years in Kalamazoo, in Philadelphia and in Greece, I thought about and wrote about identity and masculinity. My writing matured, and so did my understanding of these ideas. As a senior, this project was a culmination of my experience and understanding of masculinity and identity. But it was not the end; it is a continuance of the themes and ideas I hope to explore in my writing and in my life after Kalamazoo College.
