The Invisible Village: Voices of Sustainability
I started this project with only one hope: to write something completely different than the textbook readings we read while in Thailand. While studying in Thailand we had been drilled on the importance of learning outside of the classroom. When we studied forests, we walked through forests and when we studied coral reefs, we explored coral reefs. Yet, each unit of our program was started with dense readings from a textbook or scientific articles. While I knew these readings were important, it often took me several times reading through each page before I understood the basic concepts. Thus, with this project, I wanted to create something that anyone could read and learn about the basics of sustainability. It was, and still is, my hope that people will enjoy reading this collection stories as stories. And from this foundation of enjoyment they will start to pick up the basics of sustainability and implement these basics in their life. This project was not intended to replace a textbook, but to complement it with stories from my experiences in Thailand.
