Abstract
The focus of this piece is on the people I interacted with while in a mental hospital, the rotating
community of patients that changed almost daily because of constant new admissions and
releases. Living in close quarters, participating in activities, even the simple act of eating
a meal together fostered conversation among us. But even more significant was the soul
baring we underwent in group therapy, the shared pain of mental illness that we all
identified with. How could we not bond under these circumstances?
