I knew that I had to write my SIP about the ways in which Indian and American influences shape me. I didn't want to preach or complain in my pieces; I simply wanted to show how the marriage of two cultures functions in my life. I think I achieve that. My stories are true and told simply, without stylistic embellishment. The incidents I relate touch on a range of themes, including biculturalism, racism, generational differences, spirituality, and the interaction of cultural traditionalism and innovation. I hope that in reading my SIP, one is better able to grasp what being an Indian-American means to me.
