A Background Paper on Alternative Energy Souces: A Focus on Writing for an Energy Company
Abstract
Creating a senior individualized project that proved to be stimulating
and challenging, I wrote a background paper on alternative
energy sources for Gulf Oil Corporation. The topic, the research, and
the writing allowed me to meet a variety of goals while serving an
internship at Gulf's Corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
from January 10 to March 20, 1979. I rewardingly met my SIP objectives
as I found a project that utilized my writing skills and exposed me to
the dynamics of the corporation and the energy industry.
I managed to work with and learn something about an issue of
enormous importance to the energy industry and the nation, an issue
whose outcomes will do much to shape the future that I and my college
class will be so much a part of. I produced something of value to me
and to Gulf. For the next two years, the corporation will use my paper
as source material for speeches, and as an internal "background" paper
for informative purposes.
