Abstract
Let me simply state by way of introducing my essay to the
reader that in spite of the somewhat disparate personal and
practical goals of this research, I hope that I have succeeded
in producing a work that is informative and engaging in its own
right. My decision to investigate Romanticism and Architecture
was directed toward two ends. One, to arrive at an understanding
of some facet of architecture that would appeal to a literary background.
The other, to find a current in architectural thought
related to my own, and thereby to convince myself that it is not
illusory to expect from architecture all that I do, or at least
to begin to get a sense of what I rightly can expect.
