This paper is meant to facilitate the comprehension of the basic elements of a newscast. I have attempted to apply the material found in books and periodicals to the operations at WJBK TV2, a Detroit area TV station where I was a newsroom intern from July 17 to September 18, 1978. Most of the information gathered at WJBK-TV2 came from extensive interviewing of personnel, as the station has no operational manuals or formal library. In order to prepare the reader for the body of the paper, it is necessary to explain some of the limitations and relations that define, TV-2' s news strategy. Therefore programming, networking, and the CBS-TV2 affiliation are discussed briefly in the introductory pages. So that the reader may be acquainted with WJBK TV-2, the station's history is also mentioned in the preface that follows.en_US
