This is a general, historical collection of several of the novels created by Black authors of the United States of America. General, in the sense, that it is neither a comprehensive nor, by any means, a complete study of all the novels written by Black men in this country. And historical, in the sense, that it traces the development of the Black novel and the major experiential trends which the Black novelist has tried to convey over the years. Also in this general introduction, in addition to the literary trends and arguments, each individual novel will also be introduced and put into its correct historical place. In short, th1s is a basic presentation:(giving not-to-exacting literary criticisms of eight representative novels and a short historical/experiental account of the major literary developments) to the general reader of the evolution in the United states of the novel as an art form in Black literature. For the advanced reader, the major value of this study will be in the availability in one source of eight, otherwise hard to find, yet important. Black novels.en_US
