This is foremost of and about my grandmother, Helen Telford Reeves. She was a remarkable woman, and I am grateful that she was my grandmother. I could not have become who I am without her. She was first a comfort and friend, helping my mother and holding me to her during the first hours after I was born, for I was born at her home. She later was my companion in play, read me many stories, and designed picnics for the two of us. She was the one who took me to the beach for the first time. Even later she was my confidant, my benefactor, my adviser, my support and prophet. All of this came into focus during my years at college, when we became even closer because we were separated by distance, in phone conversations and mail. It was while I was away at college that she died, and it is the process that ensued from that that inspired me to dedicate this project to her.en_US
