Zeeman Quadrupole Studies in HgCl2 and NaClO3 Using and Induction Spectrometer
Abstract
The purpose of this work was to determine a method of measuring
the asymmetry parameter of the electric field gradient at the nuclear
site in powdered samples. The work was restricted to nuclei having a
spin of 3/2. The effect of small magnetic fields on the nuclear quadrupole
interaction was observed using an induction spectrometer (crosscoil
spectrometer). The cross-coil spectrometer was used because, like
the marginal oscillator, it promises to give faithful representation
of the derivative of the absorption mode line shape, while providing
a greater sensitivity than the marginal oscillator.
