An Analysis of The Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C. Using the Theological Criteria Developed by Paul Tillich
Abstract
This paper is based on an eight week study of the Church of the
Saviour in Washington, D.C. In it I have attempted to discover the
source of the dynamic life of this church. The observations made
during that period were by no means conditioned by sociological or
psychological rigor but are simply the results of an attempt to "live
into" the life of the church community. This "living into" included
attending the Christian Growth and Christian Doctrine classes, taught
at the School of Christian Living; working as an associate member in
the Sunday night Potter's House mission group; attending the worship
services; reading the available material on the church; and probably
most important of all, talking to the people.
