A Pre-Relocation Study of Forty-Three Small Businesses in the Central Parkway South Urban Renewal Project Area of the City of Kalamazoo, Michigan
Abstract
This paper is largely the result of a survey of forty-three small
businesses in the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The city of Kalamazoo is
in the planning stage of an urban renewal program that is referred to as the Central Parkway South Urban Renewal Project Area. Present plans for the proposed project area indicate that forty-three businesses would be
forced to re1ocate as a result of zoning and building ordinances. This study is then intended to perform the basic function of assisting local relocation officials and imparting knowledge to those who
might be interested in the preconditions of business relocation in the proposed Kalamazoo urban renewal project area. This paper is not intended to be a panacea for business relocation problems. It is at most a descriptive paper of the possible flexibility and pre-relocation needs of the forty-three small businesses under study.
