Abstract
This paper is concerned with two of the new playwrights which have sparked England's theatrical revolution.
John Arden and Harold Pinter are two of the best known
names of the new generation of dramatists. While they
both have been lumped together under the term 'new wave'
along with most of their contemporaries, Arden and Pinter
are originals, each with his own style, and distinctively
different from the other. They draw on various sources
and, in turn, have themselves acted as influences. Of
all the British playwrights to emerge in the past
ten years, John Arden and Harold Pinter are generally
acknowledged to be the two that will continue to grow
and to endure. This writer tends to agree.
