Work done while Evergood was resident artist at Kalamazoo, 1940-1942. Unveiled on May 31, 1942. Restored in the late 1990s. Left side of the mural represents the working day, specifically representing the paper mills, a major industry in Kalamazoo for over 100 years. The right side of the mural represents Kalamazoo College. The center focuses on the the community welcoming the students of Kalamazoo College. When the Hicks building renovation was underway between 2006-2008, major changes occurred to the ceiling and main lobby of Old Welles Hall. Safeguarding the mural during the renovation included framing, suspending and covering it. To prevent moisture and mildew accumulation, a special wrapping was used in the preservation. Pegboard was also applied to protect it.
