The problems which this experiment attempts to solve stem from the work of David Premack, and from the principle of positive reinforcement which bears his name. This principle comprises a qualitative and a quantitative statement: 1) If response A is more probable than response B, then A will reinforce B. 2) If responses A and B both reinforce response C, and if the probability of A is greater than that of B, then A will reinforce C more than B will.
