This paper is divided into three major parts:

William Carlos Williams, his interests and associations tn the field of literature. The second
part, which forms the body of the paper, concerns
his plays and short stories as they apply to his
poetry. The conclusion, part three, is an analysis
of Paterson. W.C.W.'s long poem, his major
poetic work, the culmination of his work in the field of American Literature.
