Pitch Phonemes in the Spanish of Guanajuato, Mexico
Abstract
The purpose of this project is to observe the Spanish of Guanajuato,
Mexico, and to see how it differs in the use of pitch phonemes from the Spanish
spoken elsewhere. The project, therefore, also studies intonation patterns, since
pitch is one of the parts of intonation, and one of the keys to meaning. The data
for the project were collected in recordings in Guanajuato. The informants were
all local residents, and persons of mixed but predominantly low class.
