This study of the spoken verb in Mexico City is of modest scope. It is not intended to be a grammar, which would itself be confining, nor is it a complete explanation of the syntax of the Mexican Spanish verb. Other studies, more complete in many aspects, have been conducted on the basis of observations of modern novels and newspapers so as to most nearly approximate daily speech. The value of this study lies in that it is, to the best of my knowledge, the first in which the study of the Spanish verb forms in Mexico City has been based directly and entirely on tapings and observations of live speech.
