The purpose of this thesis is to review selected short stories of the Puerto Rican author Rene Marques in the light of their social motivations and implications. The social viewpoint embraces the political, historical, sociological, and existential stands. This work will attempt to examine his role as a writer with a social conscience that reflects the contemporary Puerto Rican scene.
