The Effect of Intertrial Intervals in Short Term Memory
MetadataShow full item record
Short term (ST) retention of individual 3 and 5 letter units was tested over 11 presentations with intertrial intervals of 0, 20, and 50 sec. The results yielded no significant differences between intertrial intervals for any of the analyses, although large amounts of previous letter intrusions occurred, indicating the presence of proactive interference (PI). Possible causes for the lack of positive results and PI effects were discussed.
