An Evaluation of the Community Services Summer Program
Abstract
A 3-phase evaluation of the summer program was conducted: 1) parental
interviews with the families of the children who had participated, 2) administering
Form II of the Gates Basic Reading Test, 3) and a comparison of June
1965 grade-point averages with January 1966 grade-point averages. The interviews
suggested a generally favorable attitude toward the program. An average gain of 10.8 months in reading level was made by the sample of 20
students who were retested. Generally, school grades among the group had
not improved, and there was little indication that the summer program had
resulted in any significant changes.
