The way in which the staff of the institution interprets the standards, enforces the rules and discharges the rewards and punishments determines the success of the training school program. The program stresses individual attent1on and rewarding experiences above punit1ve ones, both or which help bu1ld favorable self-concepts. In addition, the dally routine d1sc1p1inary measures, rules, rewards and punishments promote self discipline. If the g1rls are able to accept the standards of the school and develop a sufficient amount of self control to function accord1ngly even w1thout the protect1ve environment of the institution, the purpose of the 1nstitut1on 1s fulfilled.
