The conversion. of PGE2 to PGF2~ in monkey liver homogenate was detected by radioimmunoassay, thin layer chromatography, and combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Up to 26% conversion after 60 minutes was demonstrated in a system containing dialysed homogenate and NADPH co-factor, in addition to radioactive PGE2 substrate. The results of this study support the existence of a prostaglandin-9-keto reductase, which has been previously proposed.
