Abstract
Adipokinetic hormone, a blocked decapeptide insect neurohormone, has been demonstrated in several insect systems. Attempts to demonstrate in vitro synthesis of this hormone from Schistocerca nitans, followed by a search for endogenous hormone and a round of bioassays for adipokinetic activity, led to the development of HPLC analytical methods for minute amounts of hormone and the tentative conclusion that male grasshoppers possess an adipokinetic response to substances that are degraded in tissue culture.
