The Distribution and Partial Characterization of Inactive Clindamycin Matabolites in the Rat

The purpose of the present study is to detect and determine the distribution of the inactive clindamycin metabolites in rats present at 0.5 hours after oral administration of clindamycin. In addition, the separation and characterization of these compounds are to be attempted. The method used to detect these compounds and determine their distribution involves the use of radioactive clindamycin. The clindamycin compounds, active and inactive, found in a particular tissue are detected using a radioactivity assay. The antibacterially active compounds are differentiated from the inactive compounds using bioautographic techniques. A supplementary method is attempted which involves a gas chromatographic analysis of trimethylsilylated derivatives of organ homogenates.
