Abstract
Radicals produced in the oxidation of pyrogallol and
phloroglucinol have been studied with ESR to find the acidity
constants and observe the proton exchange with H20. The object
of these studies were the kinetic effects of changing pH on the
mixed spin states of the semiquinones, phloroglucinol and
pyrogallol. The only optical work has been done by Steenken
and Meta. This work was not done on the trihydroxybenzens
themselves but on closely related compounds.
