dc.description.abstractA marine ecological study was carried out on the northern beach of Sand Sprit Park, Stuart, Florida. A simple hand corer was used to gather samples of harpacticoid copepods from the top 15 cm of sand at the high tide line. The sampling covered a period of 73 one-hour sampling periods. The purpose of the study was to investigate the possibility of a vertical migratory pattern in these intertidal copepoda and specifically to determine if the tidal cycle plays a significant role in influencing this migration. The results of the study indicate first of all, that stratification appears to occur on a vertical plane in the intertidal zone. Secondly, migration does seem to occur in a vertical direction. Finally, this migration does not appear to be directly connected with tidal change.en_US
