Compensatory Education for Cultural Deprivation
Abstract
The definition to serve the purpose designated by the nature of this paper would have to include at least the physical
characteristics; the attitudes, the psychological aspects,
and the reactions to educational approaches. Each division
deserves a complete list. Beginning with the physical characteristics,
the most obvious of all the descriptions available,
will be the most profitable start. Physical characteristics
of the disadvantaged pupil include such measurable phenomena
as a lack of formal language such as required for coping
with classroom demands, a weakness in auditory and visual
discrimination, a short attention span, a low standard of conduct,
an inability at abstract thinking and conceptualization,
and limited development of individualisms and of creativity.
