Forty-six subjects (Ss), discharged within the last five years from an institution for emotionally-disturbed children, were randomly chosen. They were placed into two populations, according to degree of success after discharge. Success was determined by adjustment to their environment outside an institution. The two populations were. grouped within themselves according to six categories: 1) age of S on admission to the institution, 2) age at discharge from the institution, 3) length of institutionalization, 4) sex distribution, 5) urban/rural distribution, and 6) family background. Difference of the Mean was used to test for significant difference between the two populations for categories 1, 2, and 3. Chi Square test was used for categories 4, 5, and 6. At the 5% level of confidence no significant difference was found except in Category 3. In this category a highly significant difference was found.
