It's somewhat trite but still very true that the world is getting smaller all the time. People are trave11ng more, and the news media bring other lands and customs into our l1ving rooms every night of the week. There is an ever increasing need to communicate with people whose language we do not understand, and there are vast amounts of material in other languages that need to be translated. It is doubtful that these needs will d1m1msh in the years to come, and as human translation is an arduous and time consuming task,, many people are beginning to. tum to the computer as a possible solution. Quantity and speed are the priorities and the computer can provide these, but quality and speed are nothing if the resulting text isn't understandable, and man must provide the logic that makes it possible for a computer to link other languages to our own.
