Abstract
This paper seeks to examine the factors which have influenced the rapid economic expansion of Japan. It has been divided into three sections. The first Section, Japan (Background), seeks to give a background to the Japanese experience prior to the late fifties and early sixties. The second section, Theory, deals with macroeconomic theory which will help the reader to understand the factors involved in the study of Japanese growth. These include monetary, fiscal and growth theory. The third and final section deals with the factors themselves. It is divided into four subsections explaining the effects of savings, investment, the foreign sector and government on growth.
