    Abstract
This paper is a formalized collection of various. ideas and inspirations which have migrated in and out of my mind aver a period of several years. 1 have had a passing interest in the work of the International Military Tribunal since reading John F. Kennedy's Profiles in Courage in high school, although at that time 1 had only the foggiest nation of the occurrences at Nuremberg. The Kennedy book contained an episode, alluded to herein, concerning the courage showed by Robert Taft in criticizing the Trial at the point of its greatest popularity; 1 always wondered why he had to be courageous in order to express a dissenting opinion.
