Successive samples of human cerebrospinal fluid, obtained by lumbar puncture analyzed fluorimetrically for homovanillic acid. Marked regional variation in the concentration of the acid was demonstrated; the final samples contained more than twice the amount of homovanillic acid as the first samples. The significance of these results for the study of brain metabolism by means of cerebrospinal fluid analysis are discussed.
