The Poetic Idiom of Hart Crane: A Developmental Study of Three Poems
Abstract
Crane has often been accused of excessive
obscurity, a problem which I intend to qualify, analyze
and disprove in three of his best poems. More specifically
Crane has been charged with creating intentional ambiguity
through his personal poetic idiom. It is my conviction
that the obscurity encountered in the reading of Crane's
poems is a method of transcending certain limitations
inherent in the English language itself.
