Because only a few studies have considered the effects of warm water on lake biota, little information is available for a waste-heat study in a lake situation. It is hoped that this paper, whose purpose is to consider some of the ecological effects of heated power plant effluents on the ecosystems of Lake Michigan, will answer some of the questions about thermal pollution, sound some warnings, and provide at least some data for future reference.
