Chrétien de Troyes' Search for Balance between Love and Duty in His "Romans Courtois"

Abstract

In this paper I hope to prove that Chretien de Troyes was truly a courtly love poet, even though he advocated a balanced life and married love, instead of the complete devotion of the lover to his lady required by the code of courtly love.
