dc.description.abstract	It is the purpose of this paper to examine the independence movement, its arguments and goals, the counterarguments and fears which it produces. The SNP has emerged as a political force in the last five years; the paper will suggest reasons for the growth of the party at this time as well as some possible paths the organization may follow in the future. The general aim is to chart the growth and the reasons for this growth of a political movement of secession in a nation generally considered stable. The reaction of the established parties and their impact on the voting public form an integrated second part in the study.	en_US
